Incessant Mindless Attacks on ACN Stalwarts

In recent times, there have been unwarranted and unprovoked attacks on ACN members and Chieftains by hooligans suspected to be members of the Labour Party. This has increased especially in the last three weeks. Between 5 and 7 February 5 2011, six billboards belonging to my campaign organisation were vandalized  and on Friday, 9  February, some yet to be identified armed men but suspected to be LP members opened fire on my campaign bus fully branded in ACN colours with Agunloye photographs and Omoluabi slogans. The incident happened near Ute, Ward 12 in Ose LG. The bus was conveying ACN members to Ekamarun Constituency meeting of seven wards scheduled to hold in Ute. The armed thugs heavily damaged and vandalised the bus breaking the windshields, glass windows and the tyres with bullets. Luckily, all the six occupants escaped unhurt. The case is still with the Ondo State Police Command.

Over this last weekend, suspected Labour Party members stormed Ore on Sunday, 26 February 2012 at about midday in attempt to disrupt the decamping rally of 500 members of the Labour Party (LP) and the People Democratic Party (PDP) to join the ACN. The unruly thugs destroyed all the canopies and chairs and battered  several ACN members. The incident turned to a major street fight as  onlookers teamed up with ACN members to ward off the miscreants. The timely intervention of the DPO saved lives. Two of the attackers were arrested. The decamping event then shifted to another venue to admit the new members to ACN.

But not done yet with their hooliganism, the Labour Party members went ahead and stabbed an ACN member in Okeigbo yesterday, Sunday, 26 February 2012. This was after their unsuccessful attempts to disrupt another decamping of 400 LP members, led by Madam Abike Teninteni, a very influential woman leader in Okeigbo-Ileoluji Local Government and  former Chieftain of the Labour Party. The victim who was stabbed with broken bottle on his face affecting one of  his eye has been rushed to Obafemi Awolowo Teaching Hospital.

But perhaps the most disgusting and irritating incident was the attack on the Omoluabi Office in Igbokola, Ilaje LG in the night of Sunday, to Monday morning by timid and cowardly urchins who went and destroyed the bill board in front of Omoluabi Office in Igbokoda, cutting it into shreds.

While we view these jittery and cowardly acts with dismay and as signs of a desperate group that is losing the confidence of the people, we have made formal reports to the local and State Police and to the Inspector General of Police. We are also using this medium to appeal to all members of the ACN and our teaming supporters to remain calm in the interest of peace. As a matter of reality, we may not be able to police each of our numerous supporters and change agents or guard our campaign buses, billboards and secretarial offices from mindless attacks, but we do have capacity for redress and reprisal. Let it be known to all and sundry that no one, however desperate or deprived, has the monopoly of violence or disorderly behaviour. We expect Governor Mimiko, as the Chief Security Officer of the State along with the Security and Police Agencies to fish out the culprits in all these cases, calm all party members  and ensure safety, security and peace in Ondo State.

Enough is enough.

Dr. Olu Agunloye,
Omoluabi of Ondo State,
Governorship Aspirant under ACN
