The camp of the Action Congress of Nigeria got boosted on
democracy day in the Northern Senatorial District of Ondo State when over five
hundred defectors from the Peoples' Democratic Party, Labour Party and All
Nigerian Peoples Party in Akoko West Local Government joined the ACN.
Declaring their support for the Action Congress of Nigeria through
the Omoluabi Platform of the party, leaders of the various defecting political
party noted that it is high time the entire state move away from the politics
of deceit of the incumbent governor of the state.
The leaders who spoke through Engineer Olu Akande, a former
University Lecturer who was once in the Peoples Democratic Party noted that the
exploits of Dr. Olu Agunloye in the Road Safety Commission and his
contributions to the generality of communities in Akoko in particular and
generally Ondo State both as minister of the Federal Republic and as Chief
Executive Officer of the Federal Road Safety Commission cannot be quantified.
He noted that the activities of Omoluabi Platform which has its
presence in all the 203 wards across the18 LGA of Ondo State endeared him and
his followers to drop their various political camps to join the Action Congress
of Nigeria so as to move the state forward.
Also speaking at the occasion, Mr.Jackson Adewunmi, a former Councillor in
the Local Government and former financial secretary of the People' Democratic Party
enjoined all followers to go back to their wards and units to work assiduously
for the progress of the ACN in the coming gubernatorial elections in the state.
Other leaders of the defecting group, Mr Joel Olorundare, a former
public servant and Mr Oluponna Omope, former treasurer of the party in the ward
told party leaders at the ceremony that they are decamping to the Action
Congress of Nigeria solely for the progress of the party and to ensure the success
of the party at the forthcoming gubernatorial elections. They insisted that
they will support any one among the aspirants that is picked by the hierarchy
of the party noting that all of them are capable of governing the state.
Receiving the defectors, the chairman of the party in the local
government area, Mr Dayo Bello praised the new members for their courage to
leave their party for the ACN even at the risk of their lives at this time when
thugs of the Labour party are rampaging across the state killing and destroying
opposition properties. Representatives of Dr. Olu Agunloye and Hon. Joseph
Ajatta were present at the ceremony.
